As all of you know, I’ve started the last leg of my cancer
journey, with lots of plans for traveling and other adventures.
I can now report that I have checked off the first item on
my bucket list. Since most of my traveling will be road trips, I decided to get
a new car.
After a bit of research and a few test drives, I chose a
newer version of the SUV I already owned, and purchased a 2013 Ford Escape from
McRee Ford in Dickinson.
My salesman, James Tillman (shown with me and my new car in
the photo at right), helped me work out a few obstacles with the sale, and I was
good to go—unfortunately, not until after that poor man spend nearly an hour
trying to show me how to use all the high-tech features on my new
vehicle—namely VOICE ACTIVATED Navigation System, Sirius Radio, SYNC Cell
Phone, and CLIMATE CONTROL???
Bless his heart, he tried his best, and finally gave me his
cell phone number and told me to call him anytime if I had trouble using the
controls. The man is a Saint!
And that nice lady who speaks to me when I push the voice
command button (I’ve dubbed her Violet) can actually crank up the AC when I
scream, “Hot Flash!!!!” (Translation: Climate: 58º)
But seeing as how I’ve made SOME progress in the hi-tech
arena, I think one of those smart phones and texting might just be in my
future. Lord help those poor sales people at the mobile phones store!
Recently, two of my best buddies, Rosemary Sharp and Carolyn Gandara
(left to right in the photo at left with me in the middle) and I decided to test
Violet’s navigation skills for lunch, and I’ll be darned if she didn’t take us
straight to the Cheesecake Factory Restaurant.
As you can see, we ordered some
tasty entrées, but I couldn’t stop there. I just had to sample the Godiva
Chocolate Cheesecake (which I shared it with my buddies). Chocolate makes
everything better!
Since Violet passed her test with flying colors, I think
she’s ready for her first road trip.
If you have any suggestions for my bucket list: great
restaurants, local entertainment, out-of-the-ordinary activities (Sorry,
skydiving is off the table per my doctor’s orders—DO NOT FALL!), day trip
locations or other travel destinations, send them to me at: gloria@gloriahanderlyons.com.
And if you’d like to come along—EVEN BETTER!!!
More adventures to follow…
